I think this is the same issue that I tried to figure out on
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=92818
I'm attaching the GTK+-side patch I came up with, it at least fixes the
function keys issue I was seeing, but my keymaps seem to work alright wrt
Ctrl+Backspace here, so more testing welcome.
