I think this particular issue was fixed a while back with commit c1565f3c

I cannot reproduce with a recent Xwayland from xserver 1.18.x nor with native
gtk3 apps.

Downstream bug was https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1188289

Please reopen if the issue still occurs for you with a recent
gtk3/gnome-shell/Xwayland build.
