            Bug ID: 90735
Summary: Touchpad does not feel "right", acceleration issue
           Product: Wayland
           Version: unspecified
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: libinput
          Assignee: wayland-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
          Reporter: bwyazel at gmail.com

Note* I will try to keep this bug report as quantitative as possible, though
much of the issue is based on "feeling" and workflow, so the language may be a
bit fluffy.

When testing the wayland session in Gnome on Archlinux, I am constantly at odds
with my touchpad and the movement of the cursor on the screen. No matter how I
adjust the "speed" option in Gnome, I can never get right balance of pointer
velocity and pointer acceleration.

It seems that at nice velocities, the acceleration is far too high for what is
comfortable, and at the right acceleration the velocity moves at a snails pace.
This leads to me constantly undershooting my target, or overshooting, and it is
very aggravating after 10+ years of getting used to a trackpad behaving in a
specific way. Further, in my X environment in Gnome my trackpad works
beautifully, and the speed option in Gnome actually works well.

In other operating systems I have gotten very used to being able to adjusted
separately velocity and acceleration, and while I know very little about the
interworkings of libinput, it seems like there is some equation that is trying
to balance them both for you based on a superficial "speed" preference and is
doing a wonky job.

I don't know if there is an equation or not that is adjusting both pointer
velocity and acceleration, but would it be possible to refine it a bit more
before this goes mainstream. Also, is it even worth asking for separate
controls for both velocity and acceleration, so that I can tailor my mouse
input to what I feel is correct, rather than battling with a single slider?
