That's not the case. When I reach the target sometimes I need to correct the
position by a small movement, but most of the time this occurs the pointer
moves too fast and the target is exceeded/overtaken. That's not the behavior I
expect and this issue is not present in synaptics. I don't know why, maybe
because synaptics has more configurable options like noise cancelation or
deceleration factor added to acceleration speed. 

Can't you introduce acceleration profiles flat/adaptive for my touchpad in
libinput? I would try to use flat profile and see if it will resolve this
issue. 
In the current behavior I feel a certain acceleration when I move my finger
fast and longer and that's not a problem. The only problem is when I move my
finger shorter and it seems that acceleration gives the pointer a boost which
overtakes the target.
