Hey Peter,

thanks a lot for taking care of this report.

"which brings up one question: do you have the touchpad enabled or disabled?"

Touchpad is enabled. Reason is that there are other people using this notebook
from time to time, inexperienced using the trackpoint.

"What I found is that putting a finger down in the button area, then moving
into the bottom area and clicking does not trigger a left click, the click only
works on an immediate press, not when there's movement."

To me it seems that there's the button area and there is the touchpad area.
Switching from button area to touchpad area while the finger is touching the
surface prevents from the default touchpad behavior and is simply doing nothing
while swiping/clicking. The other way around (swiping from touch to button) the
button area seems to be ignored and is used like the touchpad area. Both
behaviors will last until one lifts the finger for a short amount of time after
the movement which seems to "reset" the zones.

To me this absolutely makes sense regarding average clickpad usage. You don't
want your pointers movement to stop just because you reach the button area
while swiping. Otherwise shouldn't an unintentional swipe while in button area
make the pointer move. So everything fine so far.

"I wonder if fixing that would be sufficient? I'd be quite similar to what
you're doing here anyway"

Using the touchpad area as left click button unfortunately is not the same as
having it configured like a "real" button since it allows movement of the
pointer. So moving the pointer with the trackpoint where the click shall appear
and then moving the thumb to the left click position will move the pointer a
few pixels, too. This wouldn't be of a bigger problem for average desktop use
but me as a graphic designer is depending on pixel-precise movement/clicks.

So far, all the best for your 2017

Markus
