Click methods:    *button-areas clickfinger 

This indicates that the button-areas option is the default for your touchpad.
If it changed, it's at a higher level, most likely GNOME. Check the output of:

gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad click-method

and, if needed, set it to 'areas'
