<pre>I'm seeing the problem with gnome-shell and weston. It's much more noticeable
on this laptop than on my desktop development machine. Both using a Kaveri APU,
so maybe it's just less noticeable on more powerful systems.

Actually, I'm not sure how it could be avoided by any compositor, since
Xwayland always sends the same single buffer to the compositor and copies new
content to that.</pre>
