You know what would be really nice is if one of the open source Flash efforts got working really well on the vast majority of the sites it is used on.

The problem is, you need a project that needs a lot of help, where there is an active developer community, where the learning curve isn't too steep, and where the developers are receptive to help (which rules out one or two well known examples), and which is on the fun side.  Right now Wayland is early in its lifetime and is basically a one person project right now.
