touch events will not generate mouse events in wayland, so you're safe here.

the three buttons are currently BTN_TOUCH, BTN_STYLUS and BTN_STYLUS2, with
the first being that tip button. so a TabletTouch/Release event is
semantically equivalent to BTN_TOUCH press/release, it's really just a
matter of whether we have a separate event here or map it to a button. you
get the same data either way.
2) and 3) are handled by the motion event, the last motion event before a
button will give you the coordinates for all axes. either way, looks like
you can get access to the data you need, so we're good here too.

are you talking about Option TPCButton? it does what you describe above, and
the earliest reference in the linuxwacom driver I can find for it is 2003 :)
