What I found out is that if I compile the same version 1.10.2 that is 
included with Ubuntu, it works. So bisect did not work and something is 
botched in their distribution. The bug is definately in cairo, not 
pixman, as it is visible even if the git pixman is used.

Probably best to just stick this annoying tidbit into the Ubuntu 
directions, the main directions can ignore cairo/pixman.
