I got around to doing my fixes on the patches 1-4, and then tried to
validate the result.
The main complaint is that the <font> tag does not exist in the
version of HTML used for the site. You need to find a replacement for
it.

Could you take that branch and work it into a complete new series with
your other changes?
The patches titled "squash" I meant to squash into the previous patch
and keep the additional comments to maintain authorship information. I
didn't complete that, because this series feels still too unfinished
to commit even partly to the live web site, and this way it is also
easier for you to see what I wanted to change.
You can drop the "remove all font elements" patch if you use a right
way to color the comments.
