Ok, 'mess' is perhaps overstated, but I was also thinking back to
earlier idiosyncracies we've worked around that, IMHO, would be avoided
if the wayland protocol sources and the protocol scanner were two
different packages.
In any case, this is not a critique of your patch, and I suppose if I'm
serious about proposing this, I should write it up as a serious
proposal...
