I've tried staring pretty hard at this backtrace, but I'm just not
finding the bug that way. Can you try to produce a minimal test case
that demonstrates this freeze?

I'm totally willing to believe we have some sort of bug here, but I'm
not sure where to start looking for it. Any help you can give me would
be great.
