[Xcb] XCB git borked?

Here's what I get when I try to do a "git pull" in my
current git directory:

  * refs/heads/origin: same as branch 'master' of git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xcb
  * refs/heads/xspec: same as branch 'xspec' of git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xcb
  Auto-following refs/tags/xcb-demo-0.1
  Unpacking 1 objects
   100% (1/1) done
  * refs/tags/xcb-demo-0.1: storing tag 'xcb-demo-0.1' of git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xcb
  fatal: Unable to create .git/refs/tags/xcb-demo-0.1.lock

Doing a fresh "git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/xcb"
works fine.

Suggestions?
