You actually already have sufficient access to put a repo in your home
directory on people.freedesktop.org .  Failing that, you could at least
make a repo locally.  Don't work on a codebase of any significant size
without version control; when you need it, you really need it, and like
that mythical backup everyone should have, you don't want to start using
it *after* the first time you needed it.
