However, callback based event handling seems to be the norm. If we  
think it is the wrong way to do things, it behooves us to demonstrate  
the One True Way (the Way of the Many Paths?) to handle events.

This sounds like a migration path that is as important to think about  
as Xlib -> XCB. Maybe a good subject for a conference talk.
