[Xcb] New to XCB - how to decode keysyms

I've recently started converting some code from Xlib to XCB to get around 
multi-threading problems. The turorial describes how to get keyboard input
but there is no hints as to how you get from a Keysym to character.
In my xlib code I used XLookupString, can anyone give me an example of
how one does this under XCB?
