You mean make it optional for MimeTypes or optional for all lists?
Doing the former would probably just confuse the issue and the latter
would just introduce all sorts of "I installed <new-fancy-pants-package>
on <silly-old-distro> and I don't see <fancy-pants> in the menus".
I don't see the problem with just sticking with the well known and
existing convention of requiring the trailing ';'.
