Desktop file Exec use of %0

Back in October 2004, a thread talked about using %0 or some other 
method if the Exec key was not to include itself in the action. For 
example using an Action menu of a desktop file to execute some other 
application. Thread:

This was not added into the desktop file spec but was this added to KDE 
by chance? Are there any other suggestions on how to solve this issue 
within the desktop spec?

BTW, are Action menus going away or staying around in the future?
