Associating mime types with icons - broken?

I'm not entirely sure how it works, but GNOME maps them to
"gnome-mime-application-x-foo", IOW it simply replaces a slash with a
dash. It's too bad the / character can't be used in the icon names. For
maximum compatibility maybe the GNOME scheme should just be adopted.
