freedesktop.org and accelerated desktop standards

Hi,
this is the first time i subscribe to a mailing list, so please bear 
with me if i am a bit newbieish. :)
I just wanted to ask if there's some plan for freedesktop to adopt some 
standards to regulate some of the issues that are arising (and that 
probably will arise in the future) while developing compositing and 
window managers (and i am referring to Compiz and Beryl).
Are things like "viewports" or -insert any features of the 
aforementioned WMs- being considered for standardization?
