xdg-mime query filetype|default

It heavily depends on the version of gnome-vfs you are using whether you
have a relatively bug-free xdgmime. However, Nautilus uses gnome-vfs so
this shouldn't happen. Maybe you could send me an example file? You can
probably truncate it to 300 bytes or something, this should be enough
for MIME detection.
