Relying on POSIX functions is ok since XDG targets Unix desktops. We have
never promised that XDG reference tools will work on non-Unix
environments.

However, patches are welcome that make tools work on non-Unix platforms,
as long as they don't add unnecessary hurdle to the existing maintainers.
Like I said in the other email, I doubt the usefulness of having a
Unix-desktop tool in a non-Unix desktop environment.
