overriding user menu

Hi,
I would like removing some elements from user menu

I tried lot of things $HOME/.config/menus/applications.menu but did not  
help, each time my menu resets to settings menu only

I want to remove gnome-sound-recorder.desktop from the user menu
my actual applications.menu is as follow :
