Mime types for folders

Hey everyone,

I'm not 100% sure that this is the right mailing list for such a question,
but I figure you lot should know better than anyone.

At the moment I'm looking for a way to set a MIME type for a folder
(probably with an extension via a glob pattern), and then override the
default action, icon, etc.

For example setting foldername.vob to have it's own
1) MIME type definition in ~/.local/share/mime/packages (presumably
sub-classed from inode/directory)
2) Associated entry in ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list
3) Default handler in ~/.local/share/applications/vob0.1.desktop

So far my only luck has been in having this apply to files, which isn't
exactly what I'm after. I found an old post at
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xdg/2008-May/009642.html where the
poster seems to have it working for both directories _and_ files. No such
luck for myself though.

Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
-Keith
