Focused window specification

Hello!
I was wondering if there was a specification I could use to get the size of the currently focused window? I know that X11 has stuff for that, but it seems that the Wayland specification extension that would allow that is not implemented on GNOME or KDE. Is there a better way of doing this than making a shell extension for every platform?
