How to implement Alpha blending

Hi ,
I am writing Kdrive DDX driver . The Hardware provides Alpha blending
acceleration.
But in Kdrive there are two functions provided for rendering (Composite and
Blend).
I have gone through sample drivers. But i am not able to understand, out of
Composite and Blend
which function to use for alpha blending ??? And what is the difference
betwwen these two
accelerations ???

And to use alpha blending , where the alpha value is stored ???
