the IX is a mobile chip and often the desktop cards are wired such that the
driver thinks an LCD is attached.  try adding:
Option "CrtOnly" "true"
to the device section of your config.  The option may be broken in some versions
of Xorg (I haven't tried it in 6.8.x), but should work with xorg from cvs.
