Added the log file.  Had to wait until I got a good crash.  Also memtested the
RAM to make sure it wasn't a memory problem I was having - was seeing 3D
artifacts, looked like missing rectangles in a checkboard pattern at a fixed z
distance from the screen (i.e. close objects were rendered fine, far away stuff
was checkerboard).  but I had a bad module, removed it, validated the RAM and
then kept going.  Ran glxgears saw checkerboard, but didn't crash - went into
save mode, returned a checkerboard was not reproducible.  Even on reboot. 
However, tuxracer crashed on startup - the third time freezing the system.  Got
the log file for that.  Maybe my video card drivers are wrong.  Hopefully, I'm
not an idiot for submitting a bug report when it is likely pebcac.  All the best.
