Hello, and thanks in advance.

As I wrote out at the URL near my signature, I own an ATI Radeon 7000/VE PCI
video card and a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! Value (CT4830) sound card
that compete for my video signals. When Fedora Core 1 and Mandrake 9.2 (as well
as 10) tried to display the X Server on the XFree86 engine, it would try to
start, but no screens were found.

Marc Aurele La France in the XFree86 mailing list works on the XFree86 ATI
Radeon driver, and he helped me track this issue down. It turns out that the SB
Live! card considers itself a "VGA Compatible Unclassified Device" (identified
by lspci), and thus fights with the Radeon card for a video signal.

At first, we simply added BusID "PCI:0:13:0" to my XF86Config-4 File, but that
caused an error with the Radeon's BIOS, and hung the system.

The workaround we found was to:

cd /usr/X11R6/lib/modules

cp libpcidata.a libpcidata.backup

sed 's/scanpci/pcidata/g' < libscanpci.a > libpcidata.a

And using that method, my sound card worked with ALSA and the Radeon got the
video signals. Marc solved the issue, and when XFree86 4.5 comes out, the issue
will be solved.

However, I am a Fedora user now, and Fedora Core 2 is moving to the X.org
display system. Does the above workaround apply to the X.org system?

Thank you!
