I tried Studio 9 compiler, and I get a linker error while building
./libOSMesa.so.4.0:

ld: fatal: too many symbols require `small' PIC references:
	have 2112, maximum 2048 -- recompile some modules -K PIC.

It's not clear whether this is due to IPO inflating the number of symbols.
