Summary: RFE: libfont should be much more verbose when
files/resources cannot be found/opened
Product: xorg
Version: CVS_head
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: Lib/font
AssignedTo: xorg-bugzilla-noise at freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: roland.mainz at nrubsig.org
CC: eich at pdx.freedesktop.org
RFE: libfont should be much more verbose when files/resources cannot be
found/opened. Right now it's more or less impossible to figure out what is going
wrong except using tools like Solaris's "truss" or similar tracing tools.
IMHO the Xserver should be verbose in the following cases:
- A file exists but cannot be opened
- |mmap()| fails
- A file containing font data cannot be opened
- A fonts.dir entry is being dropped for some reason
- Any case where the Xserver returns
"BadFontname"/"BadFontPath"/"BadFontFormat" the exact reason should be printed
in the server log.
