improved version for attachment# 1121

Here is an improved version of patch according to the feedback in comment #25 
from Christophe Jacquet. 
As for the problem reported in comment #24 From Cyrille Berger, I don't think
the problem is really monitor detection related. There are many IGP320M laptops

that we have never be able to make them work with dual-head (I'm still not sure

what's wrong with radeon driver for these laptops, I've never had access to 
one of them). I suspect this is one of them, try XFree86 4.4 (or FC2 or 
SuSE9.1) and see if it makes any difference. Thanks.
