Summary: Screen goes black every few seconds
Product: xorg
Version: 6.8.2
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: Driver/Radeon
AssignedTo: xorg-bugzilla-noise at freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: TurinCJ at gmail.com
This problem developed after two events in quick succession. The first was
installation of the Radeon driver from ATI's website. A few hours later, the
xorg 6.8.2 update was applied via yum. The desktop is relatively stable, but
activation of any program would cause the screen to start blanking to black,
quickly increasing in frequency to once every 3-5 seconds.
My first remedy was to remove the Radeon driver from ATI. - no change
My second was to revert the xorg back to 6.8.1 - that cured the problem
Then I reapplied xorg 6.8.2 and the problem returned.
The machine is a P4 and the Radeon card is the 9200SE.
The upshot is this may not be an xorg bug at all, but, a conflict left by some
residue of the driver from ATI, but then again, it seems worth reporting.
