This sounds very much like a hardware problem (presumably your ramdac/memory
interface interferes with other regular memory accesses). If nobody else
exhibits this effect, I assume it is broken hardware.

Michel might have other / more information on the topic, though. I would rather
listen to him than to me ;^)
