I do not experience any lockups if I comment out Load "dri" in xorg.conf but
this obviously slows things up.

ATI's proprietary driver didn't help either (fglrx_6_8_0-8.10.19-1.i386.rpm).

I could try enabling DRI again and setting Option "no_accel" to "yes" if this
would be useful?
