I can confirm that this this bug does apply to the radeon driver.

I was using the radeon driver when I filed the original bug report. After filing
the original bug report, I installed the ATI version 8.10.19 driver in order to
see if it fixed the lockup problems that I was experiencing – it didn't.

I will switch back to the Xorg radeon driver at the weekend and will then try
enabling the DRI and and using Option "RenderAccel" "off" as you suggest. I will
also attach X server configuration and log files.
