keyboard problem under X with a different kernel

do you see anything in the log file or in /var/log/messages (or dmesg)?
does unplugging/replugging the keyboard do anything?
does the same thing happen when no X is running?

if it broke by changing the kernel I'd say a kernel bug, but without an logs
it's hard to tell.
