I'm trying to get these X server side patches merged as soon as
possible. I'll shortly send a second version of the patches to the
mailing list, after I have made the fixes recommended by Mark and Tiago.

After that I'll try to allocate about 1 day per week of my time for
proposing/implementing the new protocol request for clients and
modifying the clients to take advantage of the request. I'm probably not
finishing this protocol/library/client side stuff in a few weeks.

It's always possible to propose fixes and improvements later on. Making
changes becomes easier after some initial functionality has been already
merged and the basic building blocks are already in place.
