This option is enabled by default, so it is applied at distcheck time, 
even if the module was configured with --disable-selective-werror at the 
time when 'make distcheck' was invoked.

Now that you mention it, if those who need --disable-selective-werror 
because they are "stuck" otherwise will not be able to run distcheck. 
That makes me wonder if this option will be on any use for those who 
cannot build without it in the first place. This was the motivation to 
create this option to begin with. Hmmm...
