AFAIUI, not exactly. Well, we previously had DSO (Dynamic Shared
Object) linkers, but the behaviour was different. So that's just a
change in DSO linking, it's not about introducing a “new” DSO linker.

If we're going to go the AC_SEARCH_LIBS way, I guess it's time to
apply that patch, and time for me to submit some other similar patches
for similar bugs we have in the Debian BTS:
