This is not a protocol violation. Throughout the spec, it is made clear
that the X server is free to discard window contents at any time, as
long as suitable expose or graphics expose events are delivered.

Performance of GetImage/PutImage is generally low enough that it is
faster for the application to re-generate the window contents than to
have them preserved by this mechanism in the server.
