[Bug 39949] RandR panning & scaling don't work

Comment 34 seems to imply that panning works for some. Is this true for 
anyone using drivers supported by KMS? I've tried without success in servers 
from 1.12 through 1.13 & 1.14.3.901 with Intel, Radeon & Nouveau without 
success. The screen in 1.14.3.901 seems to get drawn correctly, but the mouse 
is confined to the area defined by actual screen resolution.

It seems those with old hardware requiring legacy, non-KMS drivers (e.g. MGA, 
i810), or possibly proprietary drivers (NVidia?, I only ever use FOSS 
drivers), are the only ones enjoying this feature that worked just fine aka 
Virtual for many many years before KMS evolution destroyed it. I'd really 
like to be able to upgrade to a distro version that isn't already over two 
years old and still be able to keep on doing what I've been doing quite well 
for many years. :-(
