Not sure what you mean by footnotes?

Yeah, would love to drop the duplication. Very happy to integrate if
someone makes it available!
I'm happy to refactor the long lines if that fits in better with the
exisitng X code.

Do you mean mirclient and mir-client-platform-mesa? These are both provided
by Mir which is developed on Launchpad [1] with code in bzr and tarballs
available for download.
