thanks alot for your patch. Unfortunately, I does not help, but things changed
a little bit:

At first, the visible output is garbled again, and I still see this error in
dmesg, but now with a new debug output line due to you patch:

... and that over and over again, all 15 secs one entry in dmesg until I stop
the xdm service.

Additionally, this was the first time that I saw a crashdump in
/var/log/Xorg.log, but I'm not sure if it is related. I saw this crash only
once, and was unable to reproduce it a second time:
