XOrg fails on PowerMac G4/Radeon/Linux 2.6.8

Hi all,

I ran into a strange X problem using Linux 2.4 vs. 2.6 and hope you can
help me resolving it...


Hardware:
* Powermac G4 "Silver" 800 MHz
* Radeon RV200 QW [Radeon 7500]
* Formac Gallery 1740 Flat Panel Display


Software:
* Linux 2.4.25 and Linux 2.6.8 (the latter one coming with Yellowdog 4)
* xorg YDL4 rpm's (xorg-x11-0.0.6.6-0.0.2004_03_11.9.ydl.1 etc)
* glibc 2.3.3


Problem:
I had the system running nicely using an old XFree86 and YDL 3 plus tons
of self-compiled stuff. Upgrading to xorg, X still works nicely using
2.4.25 (I had to add 'Option "UseFBDev" "true"' to the radeon Device
section, though). The config file is attached (gzipped).

Booting into 2.6.8, X doesn't start any more. During the start process,
the screen shortly flickers, and then it ejects saying that no usable
screens have been found. Switch back to 2.4 - works fine again, with the
same xorg and config. The failed log is attached again.

I tried several configs, all without success:
* driver "radeon", with and without "usefbdev", 8, 16 and 24 bpp: always
 "no screens found"
* driver "fbdev", 8, 16 and 24 bpp: this time the error
 FBDEV(0): xf86RegisterResources() found resource conflicts.


Questions:
* Does anyone have a G4 Silver/Radeon/Formac running with Linux 2.6?
* With what XF86 Config?
* Are special kernel modules needed?
* Are special kernel args needed?
* Is it possible to get more detailed information from xorg what actually
  failes here?
* Might this be a X/kernel interaction problem? How to resolve it?
