[Xorg] Xorg will only work at 8bpp on a Vaio PCG-C1VE with FC2?

I have found that an upgrade to Fedora Core 2 from Fedora Core
1 on a Sony Vaio PCG-C1VE (ati mach 64) reduces a previously working
XFree86 configuration to only 8bpp. Email correspondence with another
C1VFK user indicates the same problem there.

It has been bugzilla'ed for Fedora
