Geert, consider yourself pinged.  Is there any need or want to keep ilbm

Yes there is.  The afb module provides the framebuffer core, and both the vesa 
and fbdev drivers can use afb.  I suspect that afb doesn't work if 
DoLoadableServer YES though.
