Oops, This is a FAQ on the Cygwin/X mailing list and triggered the 
"automatic answer"

Anyway, the -from parameter might be interesting though.
Do you get a connection with X -query <server>?

After a long time the xserver should print either a status message
from the XDMCP server or something like 
"XDM: too many transmissions, giving up". This message might be interesting
