High resolution on i855 external CRT

Hi.

I have a laptop with an i855GM chip in it (Dell Inspiron 300m) and X.org
6.8.1 from the Fedora Core 3 distribution. The LCD only supports
resolutions up to 1024x768, but under a certain other operating system I
could attach an external CRT and have it run at 1280x1024. Is there any
way to do this in X.org? If not, is this possibly something that could
be implemented in the future?
